Sorabora Wewa is an ancient reservoir in Mahiyanganaya, traditionally believed to have been built during the reign of King Dutugemunu in the 2nd century BC — making it a striking example of the advanced hydraulic engineering of ancient Sri Lanka's "tank" civilization, which relied on vast networks of reservoirs to support rice cultivation across the dry zone.
